Troopers: Choose safety, carefully, when car breaks down on highway
CARY, N.C. — After a woman was killed Thursday morning on U.S. Highway 1 in Cary, law enforcement officers said her situation – stuck in a stalled vehicle in the middle of the highway – is always dangerous. If there are cars all around traveling at highway speed, the best option may be to stay in your car, with your seatbelt on, until help arrives. If it’s safe in all directions, officers say you should run for the shoulder.

MANSFIELD, N.J. (AP) – A motorist who got out of his disabled vehicle on the New Jersey Turnpike was struck and killed by two tractor-trailers and a car.State police say 22-year-old Jahmir Scott, of Allentown, was pronounced dead after being hit early Tuesday in the northbound truck lanes near milepost 51.6 in Mansfield.Scott was traveling by himself when he stopped his vehicle. It wasn’t immediately clear why it became disabled.The drivers of the three vehicles that struck Scott stopped and are cooperating with investigators.

HAGERSTOWN, Md. — Twin 4-year-old girls were struck by separate vehicles while attempting to cross Interstate 70 in Hagerstown, Maryland, Monday night, Maryland State Police said. Troopers were called to I-70 near Crystal Falls Drive around 7:30 p.m. for a reported vehicle accident involving two children, police said. Investigators report that a family was traveling westbound on I-70 near Crystal Falls Drive when they pulled to the right shoulder so the children could go to the bathroom.

BOISE, Idaho (CBS2) — One disabled motorist that slid off the roadway Tuesday set in motion an incident that led to three vehicles crashing and two people landing in the hospital. At about 8 a.m., Idaho State Police said one 68-year-old driver in a Ford F150 pulled over and backed up on the highway to check on a disabled motorist who had slid off the roadway. A 53-year-old driver in a Chevy Traverse hit the rear of the Ford F150.

Maryland State Police are requesting the public’s help in identifying and locating a vehicle and driver involved in a hit and run crash on I-95 in Howard County Sunday night that critically injured three people. Police said a series of three crashes occurred between approximately 9:15 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. on southbound I-95 near Rt. 100. The first crash occurred when a 2020 Nissan Armada struck a deer and traveled onto the left shoulder and struck the guardrail.

NAPERVILLE, IL — A 28-year-old Naperville man was fatally hit by a car while he was changing a flat tire on his car on Naper Boulevard Friday afternoon. Detectives believe the 32-year-old woman was driving southbound when she lost control of her vehicle and struck another vehicle that was resting on the shoulder. Police say that vehicle was unoccupied and was there as a result of an earlier crash.
