Semi-Truck Crash During Traffic Stop Kills Bernalillo County Deputy
A fatal 18-wheeler accident was reported on February 23, 2026, in New Mexico, after a Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office sergeant was conducting a traffic stop on westbound I-40 near Carnuel (around mile marker 170). Investigators report the sergeant had exited his patrol unit when a semi-truck struck the rear of the department vehicle, pinning him underneath. He was pronounced dead at the scene. When a law enforcement officer (or any roadside worker or motorist) is struck during a stop on an active interstate, investigators typically focus on what the truck driver could see, what warnings were present, how traffic was flowing, and whether the driver had enough time and distance to safely react.

A trooper survived after being hit by an SUV this month in a terrifying accident captured on video in Upstate New York. The New York State Police released a body camera video Tuesday of the “close call” crash in Duane, a tiny town about 21 miles northwest of Saranac Lake in the Adirondacks. Troopers said the “near-fatal crash” happened around 8:07 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 13, at the intersection of State Route 458 and State Route 30 while state police were investigating a property damage accident.

Mason County, WA (February 23, 2026) – A 57-year-old Shelton man and his 49-year-old passenger, a Port Angeles woman, were hurt in a traffic crash on Highway 101 Sunday. It was before 4 a.m. when a northbound van on Highway 101, near Sanderson Field, left the roadway and crashed onto a ditch. As a result, the vehicle rolled and turned onto its driver’s side. Officers said the driver of the van fled from the scene.

HOUSTON – An off-duty Fort Bend County Sheriff’s deputy who was struck by a vehicle while helping a stranded motorist over the weekend has died, authorities said. The sheriff’s office said around 3:40 a.m. Saturday, FBCSO Deputy Kenneth Lewis was hit by a passing vehicle as he was helping a stranded motorist on I-10 near Eldridge Parkway in Houston. The striking vehicle fled the scene. Investigators said Deputy Lewis was in his personal vehicle when he pulled over to help.

East Lackawannock Township, PA (February 22, 2026) – A pedestrian died after being struck by a vehicle on Thursday evening, February 19, on Interstate 80 in Mercer County. The crash occurred just after 6:30 p.m. in the eastbound lanes near mile marker 15. According to the Pennsylvania State Police, a vehicle driven by 58-year-old Gregory Booty of Vienna Township was disabled on the shoulder of the roadway. Investigators said Booty exited his vehicle and walked toward the median.

CINCINNATI (WXIX) -A semi-truck driver from New York was taken to the hospital after a single-vehicle crash occurred in Warren County early Sunday morning, according to troopers with the Ohio State Highway Patrol, OSP. Troopers say they were called around 6:15 a.m. to I-71 north of State Route 123 for the report of a commercial vehicle crash involving a box truck. The box truck was abandoned on the right side of the road after it was disabled due to a mechanical issue.

MAGNA — One person is dead and multiple others are critically injured after a collision involving three vehicles on I-80 near Magna on Saturday. At 11:56 a.m., a Chevrolet Malibu traveling west in the eastbound lanes of I-80 struck an eastbound Dodge Ram 2500 head-on, then drifted along the cable barrier before coming to rest. An oncoming eastbound Toyota RAV4 then struck the Dodge, causing the Dodge to overturn and block all eastbound lanes, Utah Highway Patrol said in a press release.

RALEIGH, N.C. (WTVD) – One person is dead after a Friday night crash on I-440 Westbound. Around 9:40 p.m., Raleigh police responded to a crash near the Glen Eden Drive overpass. All westbound lanes were closed down. Authorities told ABC11 that the initial collision involved several vehicles, which were all moved to the shoulder of the highway. Officers and a towing company were on the scene finishing crash documentation. Investigators say that while this was happening, a white 2015 Chevrolet Silverado driven by Jack Neville was speeding and struck the rear left corner of a 2007 Pontiac Vibe.

The Campbell County Police Department announced the discovery of a missing person at 9 a.m. on February 21 in a press release. The department said that the individual was reported missing at 8 p.m. on February 20 after authorities received an iPhone crash detection alert in the area of Nienaber Lane near the Ohio River in the area of Melbourne, Kentucky.
