1 dead, 1 injured after car hits them outside broken down vehicle on Route 18 in New Bedford
A 23-year-old was killed, and a second person was hospitalized with critical injuries after they were struck by a car while walking away from their broken down vehicle on Route 18 in New Bedford, Massachusetts, on Friday night. The Bristol County District Attorney’s Office announced that Ruby Quiro Santos, of New Bedford, died from her injuries following the crash that occurred around 9:15 p.m. on Route 18 northbound, north of the Hillman Street onramp.

HOFFMAN ESTATES, Ill. — A portion of I-90 in northwest suburban Hoffman Estates was shut down early Monday morning following a chain-reaction crash in which an EMS worker was hit by a car, according to Illinois State Police. All lanes reopened by about 8:15 a.m. ISP says the crash happened just before 2 a.m. on I-90 westbound at milepost 61 when a semi-truck hit a stationary vehicle that had been involved in a previous crash, for which an ambulance was at the scene.

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) – A man was killed, and a child was injured in a fatal crash on the Gulf Freeway Saturday night, the Houston Police Department said. Authorities said the man was driving southbound with two passengers in a Dodge Durango at about 9 p.m. when he struck a wall and disabled the car. The driver got out of the car and was standing next to it when a Chevy truck traveling southbound in the second lane hit him, police said.

A 19-year-old Tampa man died in a pre-dawn vehicle crash Feb. 1 on Interstate 75 in Sumter County. According to a Florida Highway Patrol news release, the man was southbound on I-75, driving a Honda Accord, when he struck the back of a semitractor truck with no trailer that was stopped along the emergency shoulder after experiencing mechanical issues. For unknown reasons, the release says, the Tampa man entered the shoulder and struck the truck.

The crash claimed the lives of 32-year-old Jose Luis Martinez II and 32-year-old Ashley Garza, both of Cincinnati, Ohio. The preliminary investigation revealed that a 2022 Toyota RAV4 was traveling west on Interstate 10 near milepost 179, in the left lane.

A pedestrian was struck by a pickup truck while trying to get help for a disabled vehicle during a stretch of snow-related crashes investigated by Pennridge Regional Police Department on Saturday, according to information released Tuesday. Police said the most serious incident occurred on Ridge Road near Old Bethlehem Road in East Rockhill Township, near Keelersville Club. A Chevrolet Equinox had earlier slid off the roadway and rolled over due to snowy conditions.

The incident happened around 5:47 a.m. near the 250-mie marker on I-81 northbound. The trooper was checking on two tractor trailers on the right shoulder of the interstate when a third tractor trailer traveling north hit the trooper’s vehicle, VSP said in a release.

HUDSONVILLE, Mich. – More than 100 vehicles smashed into each other or slid off an interstate in Michigan on Monday as snow fueled by the Great Lakes blanketed the state. The massive pileup prompted the Michigan State Police to close both directions of Interstate 196 Monday morning just southwest of Grand Rapids while officials worked to remove all the vehicles, including more than 30 semitrailer trucks. The State Police said there were numerous injuries, but no deaths had been reported.

Multiple vehicle pileups occurred on major highways during snow and slick roads in New York and Pennsylvania on Thursday, sending at least seven people to the hospital and causing one fatality. As many as 37 vehicles piled up on I-81 near Lafayette, New York, 10 miles south of Syracuse, at around 2:20 p.m. EST Thursday. KY3.com says that seven people were taken to area hospitals, and the interstate was temporarily closed in both directions for around five hours.
