Fiery Crash Shuts Down I-49 in Natchitoches: What Drivers Should Know About “Sitting Duck” Truck Crashes
NATCHITOCHES PARISH, La. — On Thursday, Feb. 12, a routine afternoon drive on Interstate 49 in Natchitoches Parish turned tragic. Just after 1:40 p.m., authorities responded to a violent collision and fire that shut down both the northbound and southbound lanes for hours and claimed a life. The accident is another reminder of how dangerous high-speed interstate crashes can be, especially when large commercial vehicles are stopped along the roadway.

The Tennessee Highway Patrol has identified the person killed in an afternoon crash March 2 on Interstate 75 in Anderson County. Steven J. White, 54, of Tennessee, was killed when the 2016 Mazda CX-5 he was driving struck the rear of a semi-truck parked on the right hand shoulder of the interstate’s southbound lanes near mile marker 125, according to the THP’s preliminary report. The driver of the 18-wheeler was injured.

On March 2, 2026, a tragic crash on Interstate 30 in Sulphur Springs, Texas claimed the lives of a 35-year-old woman and a 1-year-old boy. According to the Sulphur Springs Police Department, the woman was driving a 2014 Ford Transit van eastbound around 3:00 a.m. when the vehicle veered onto the shoulder and struck the rear of a parked 18-wheeler. Both the driver and the child, who was seated in the front passenger area, were pronounced dead at the scene.

The crash occurred at approximately 3:07 p.m. on February 7 along Route 66 in Redbank Township, Clarion County, police reported. Police noted road conditions at the time were snow-covered. Police said a 2019 Subaru Forester operated by 22-year-old Elizabeth K. Glover, of Strattanville, was disabled along Route 66 when a 2015 Volkwagen Jetta, driven by 19-year-old Kamden L.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — A 29-year-old man was killed while he was inspecting his vehicle after a crash on Interstate 40 Sunday morning. The crash happened in the westbound lanes near the Hermitage Avenue exit in downtown Nashville around 3:30 a.m. According to Metro police, the driver of a Dodge Journey initially rear-ended a Nissan van and the vehicles became disabled. The driver of the Nissan pulled off to the right shoulder while the driver of the Dodge pulled off to the far left lane.

CASTAIC, Calif. (KABC) – A 22-year-old man was struck and killed in a hit-and-run crash Friday after pulling over to fix a flat tire on the 5 Freeway in Castaic, authorities said. The California Highway Patrol said the victim had stopped on the shoulder to repair a rear driver-side flat shortly after 11 p.m. when a tractor-trailer slammed into his vehicle, killing him. Family members identified the victim as Alejandro Covarrubias.

The Michigan State Police is looking for the driver of a Jeep that the agency said hit one of its patrol cars on the Lodge Freeway in Detroit Sunday night. According to officials, the incident happened at 7:50 p.m. on the northbound side of the freeway near Shaefer Highway. The agency said a trooper was investigating a crash and had the patrol car parked on the right shoulder of the freeway with its emergency lights on when it was rear-ended by the Jeep.

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. (WNCN) — The North Carolina State Highway Patrol is currently investigating a deadly four-vehicle crash early Saturday morning on I-95 North in Fayetteville. Troopers said that two people were injured and a young man driving a pickup truck died in a crash that involved a charter bus, an Amazon van, a pickup truck, and an SUV around 2:10 a.m. on I-95 North at mile marker 63. At the scene of the crash, our crew saw the different types of vehicles sprawled across the highway, as well as several passengers on the charter bus being evaluated by emergency medical personnel for injuries.

Pennsylvania State Police responded to the scene in Snyder Township just before 4:00 a.m. According to investigators, Andrew Wolford was initially involved in a single-vehicle accident where his car became disabled in the right-hand lane after striking a guardrail. Wolford had reportedly exited his vehicle when a second vehicle struck his stationary car.
