I-45 North Freeway reopens following deadly multi-vehicle pileup in Montgomery County, DPS says
MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Texas — The I-45 North Freeway is back open in both directions at State Highway 242 in Montgomery County following a series of events that led to a deadly multi-vehicle crash late Tuesday night, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety. According to Houston Transtar, the freeway reopened at 4:35 a.m. Wednesday after all of the main lanes were closed since 11:18 p.m. Tuesday. The series of crashes covered half a mile.

The tragedy occurred after the students — Tyan Williams, 19, Dylan Young, 21 and Broderick Moore, 19 — stopped a 1999 Jeep Laredo on the shoulder of northbound I-49 in Natchitoches to fix the flat, according to Louisiana State Police.

Shortly after midnight on Sunday, Ellensburg police received a call from a woman who said her boyfriend started driving up from Yakima several hours earlier but had not arrived and was not answering his phone.

An on-duty Sacramento Police Department detective crashed into a disabled pickup truck Tuesday morning on Interstate 5, killing two men standing near the truck, authorities said. The police vehicle, an unmarked Ford Fusion, was heading southbound on I-5 around 6:15 a.m. when it crashed into a white Dodge pickup truck stopped on the right shoulder just south of Sutterville Road, the California Highway Patrol’s South Sacramento office said in a news release.

IRETON—Two people received minor injuries in a two-vehicle accident about 6:25 a.m. Monday, Dec. 5, on Highway 10 about three miles northwest of Ireton. Fifteen-year-old Ellason Popken of Ireton was driving a 2012 Volkswagen Jetta west when she entered the eastbound lane to avoid another vehicle and struck a disabled 2004 Ford Mustang on the roadway, according to the Sioux County Sheriff’s Office. Thirty-one-year-old Timothy Wayne Clinger of Hawarden had been driving the Mustang and was standing outside of his disabled vehicle at the time it was struck.

A fatal single-vehicle accident occurred northeast of Auburn, which was reported on December 1 but was believed to have occurred the day before. The collision was reported to the California Highway Patrol (CHP) by a caller who spotted the vehicle but said they didn’t know if the car was possibly abandoned. Responders with the Placer County Fire Department arrived at the scene to discover a white Jeep, which they said came off Foresthill Road in the Todd Valley area and ended up on private property.

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A Memphis man was killed in a crash involving a semi-truck in Arkansas on Sunday. It happened on I-40 in St. Francis County near Forrest City just after 3:30 p.m. The Arkansas Department of Public Safety said the man was standing outside of a GMC Sierra, trying to put gas in the disabled truck, when he was struck by a passing semi-truck. Authorities identified the man as 45-year-old Sircrease Brooks.

ROCKBRIDGE COUNTY, Va. (WDBJ) - Two people died after crashes in Rockbridge County over the weekend, according to Virginia State Police. Ashley Mason Rhodes, 37 of Virginia Beach, died at a hospital after a crash late Sunday night. Police say she was driving a Nissan Versa southbound on Interstate 81, when she ran off the road, hit a guardrail and came to a stop blocking the southbound lanes. The Nissan was then hit by the driver of a Freightliner tractor-trailer also headed south.

COLUMBIA, Md. — Maryland State Police have photos of one of the vehicles they believe struck and killed a 23-year-old man from Columbia, Maryland who was attempting to pull a woman out of the roadway on I-95 Sunday morning when he was hit. In all, three vehicles struck 23-year old Ceasar Burke, and two left the scene according to Maryland State Police. The car police are now searching for is a black 2009 Nissan Altima with New Jersey tags P92NJE.

LAUDERDALE LAKES, Fla. – Broward Sheriff’s Office detectives are investigating after a multi-vehicle crash killed a woman on Sunday morning, authorities said. According to BSO spokesperson Carey Codd, deputies received reports of a traffic crash around 11 a.m. near the 5300 block of West Oakland Park Boulevard in Lauderdale Lakes. Investigators said that Lillie Osborne, 69, was driving a 2012 Dodge Grand Caravan westbound on West Oakland Park Boulevard in the far-right lane.
