Man killed after dense fog causes massive 17-vehicle pileup crash in California
FRESNO, Calif. – The California Highway Patrol is investigating a deadly highway pileup involving a total of 17 vehicles amid extremely dense fog in Fresno on Sunday morning. A 61-year-old man is dead and multiple others, including children, are injured, according to the CHP. People sustained minor to major injuries and were taken to local hospitals. The massive crash happened on Highway 99 and included a big rig truck. There was only 10 to 15 feet of visibility on the road at the time of the pileup.

The deadly hit-and-run happened shortly before 2:30 a.m. on Sunday, Jan. 11, along the outer loop of I-695 between Providence Road and Delaney Valley Road, according to Maryland State Police. The victim was identified as Ahmed Waqus Qayun Kahn, who was pronounced dead at the scene by first responders. Troopers said Kahn had exited a 2014 Toyota Camry and was standing on the left shoulder after the car struck the rear of a Mitsubishi Outlander that had become disabled in the left lane following a collision with a concrete barrier.

ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) — Downtown Atlanta’s I-75/85 connector was blocked off for several hours on Friday morning after a multi-car crash broke out, according to police. The connector’s southbound lanes shut down near University Avenue at around 2:40 a.m. The crash wouldn’t clear until around 6 a.m. According to police, a woman operating a Jeep Renegade had car trouble, causing her vehicle to stop in the middle of the road.

A person was killed after being struck by a vehicle while changing a tire along southbound Interstate 5 near Stockton early Friday morning, January 9, 2026. Investigators said the person was outside their vehicle changing a tire when they were hit by another vehicle traveling through the area.

HOUSTON – A woman was killed while checking the tire on her vehicle on Thursday night. She was hit by another car on I-610 near Broad Street. This happened a little before 10 p.m. Houston police said the woman stopped her vehicle in the middle of the freeway, got out of her car, and went to inspect her tire. That’s when she was hit by an oncoming vehicle. First responders say the woman who died is believed to be in her late 20s to early 30s, and at the time we posted this story, she had not been identified.

VSP said a disabled vehicle stopped in the left lane before being struck by other cars. It triggered a chain reaction that ended up involving five cars, including a tractor-trailer which is now also disabled. All lanes are now reopened.

Uxbridge Police Officer Stephen LaPorta was killed in the line of duty just before 1 a.m. Authorities said he was responding to a crash on Route 146 north, just before exit 6, when he was struck by a passing tractor-trailer. Police said LaPorta was outside of his vehicle.
