Child seating in backseat among 3 killed when truck slams into disabled car on NJ Turnpike
EAST WINDSOR — Two men and a child were killed Sunday afternoon when a tractor-trailer hit their SUV that was parked on the shoulder of the New Jersey Turnpike. The GMC SUV was parked on the right shoulder of the northbound Turnpike lanes near Exit 8 (Route 133) in East Windsor around 1:30 p.m. Elin R. Waithe, 44, of Bloomfield, was standing outside the SUV when he and the SUV was hit from the rear, State Police said.

A man was killed Monday morning in a crash on the New York State Thruway in Esopus. His car struck a construction vehicle stopped in the left lane. The collision happened around 11:15 a.m. near mile marker 80.7 on the northbound side of I-87. Troopers from the Kingston barracks responded to the scene. A 2021 Mercedes-Benz was traveling in the left lane when it hit a stationary 2003 Freightliner. The truck was part of a work zone redirecting traffic for sign installation.

A Massachusetts woman was killed after she crashed her vehicle into a disabled tractor-trailer on the Maine Turnpike on Monday afternoon. Shortly after 3 p.m., Maine State Police said they responded to a report of a fatal crash on the Maine Turnpike southbound in York. Their preliminary investigation indicates that a 2022 Western Star tractor-trailer was stopped with a mechanical malfunction in the breakdown lane. The driver of the tractor-trailer had placed reflective warning triangles in the breakdown lane as required.

ORLANDO, Fla. — The Florida Highway Patrol is searching for a driver accused of a deadly hit-and-run crash in Orange County. Troopers said a 2003 Honda Accord was traveling on Silver Star Road, approaching Le Harvey Boulevard in the center lane. As the vehicle was traveling eastbound on Silver Star Road, a pedestrian stepped into the roadway, directly into the vehicle’s path. As a result, the vehicle struck the pedestrian.

The Illinois State Police, Newport Fire Protection District, Pleasant Prairie, Wisconsin Fire and Rescue Department and Bristol, Wisconsin Fire and Rescue Department responded around 6:02 a.m. Sunday to Interstate 94 near Russell Road in Wadsworth for a vehicle crash with injuries. Emergency crews arrived and found a crash involving a semi-tractor-trailer truck, a pedestrian and a white Chevrolet van.

The crash happened at around 6:49 a.m. in the southbound lanes of the Turnpike at Mile Marker 55, where it meets Interstate 595. According to FHP, the crash involved a 2021 Mercedes Benz SUV and a 2015 Freightliner pulling two trailers. Video shows the latter vehicle with the FedEx logo.

The incident occurred at approximately 2:33 a.m. on Friday at the southbound lanes of the Florida Turnpike near mile marker 257 in Orlando. The accident involved a 2017 BMW X6 that was in the center outside lane and a 2021 semi-truck with a trailer in the outside lane.
