Fenton woman killed, five others hospitalized in deadly I-96 crash on New Year’s Day
LYON TOWNSHIP, Mich. (FOX 2) - A triple-car crash on I-96 early in the morning of New Year’s Day was the cause of one woman’s death and five others being seriously injured. The Oakland County Sheriff’s Office is not ruling out alcohol as a factor in the deadly incident that happened when a vehicle that rear-ended another parked on I-96 was struck head-on by a third vehicle. A 57-year-old woman from Fenton was riding as a backseat passenger in a 2016 Ford Explorer when it rear-ended a Chevrolet Trax stopped on westbound I-96 in Lyon Township.

Orange County, NC (January 1, 2025) – A tragic accident claimed the life of one person on Interstate 40 early Tuesday morning when they were struck by another vehicle while attending to a flat tire. The North Carolina State Highway Patrol responded to the scene of the collision near the interchange with NC-86, north of Chapel Hill, at approximately 4:38 AM. According to investigators, the driver of a white passenger vehicle had partially parked in the eastbound lane of I-40 due to a flat tire.

COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) — Two people have died and another has been arrested after a multi-car crash in southwest Columbus on New Year’s Day. Authorities responded to the scene at Alkire and Norton roads at 12:55 a.m. on Wednesday where they found a Hyundai Elantra stopped and disabled in the middle of the intersection, according to the Columbus Division of Police. The Hyundai had been involved in a non-injury crash and the occupants, 56-year-old Keith Klatt and 53-year-old Joellen Klatt, were standing beside the car.

A 40-year-old Oxnard man died in a crash on northbound Highway 101 in Camarillo early Tuesday, authorities said, and the driver of a second vehicle who fled on foot hadn’t been found. The accident was reported shortly before 1 a.m. north of Carmen Drive, according to the California Highway Patrol. A black 2007 Lexus IS 250 had been traveling northbound at high speed, witnesses told the CHP, when it made an “unsafe” turning movement to the right and hit a concrete wall, the agency said in news release.

HILLSBOROUGH, N.C. (WTVD) – A man trying to change a tire on the interstate was hit and killed by a vehicle early Tuesday morning, the North Carolina State Highway Patrol said. Troopers responded just after 4:30 a.m. on I-40 near NC 86 in Orange County. The driver was working on a flat tire on the left side of the car when an SUV traveling east struck him. The driver died at the scene.

Valley Springs, CA – A crash on Highway 12 in the Valley Springs area of Calaveras County last night resulted in two adults being flown from the scene. The collision happened around 10:41 p.m. near Double Springs Road and Toyon Middle School. Responding to the scene were Calaveras Consolidated Fire (CCF) crews, who discovered an adult male lying on the road with major injuries. “Prior to the accident, one of the vehicles had run out of gas, and the occupant (an adult male) tried to flag down an oncoming vehicle that subsequently was involved in the accident,” shared CCF.

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - A crash involving a box truck carrying propane tanks shut down the H-1 Freeway in Halawa Tuesday, snarling traffic during the afternoon commute. The crash was reported at 2:40 p.m. in the westbound lanes near the Aiea off-ramp. According to the Honolulu Police Department, the truck was traveling westbound when its roll-up door became ajar. The 33-year-old male driver came to a stop to secure the door and was rear-ended by a passenger van driven by a 73-year-old woman, police said.

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — The heavy, early-morning fog set off a domino effect of crashes on Farm-to-Market Road 136 in San Patricio county Monday, after causing a crash near Aransas Pass. At about 8:30 a.m., a recreational vehicle on County Road 102 tried crossing FM 136. DPS Public Information Sgt. Harold “Rob” Mallory said the RV didn’t see a white commercial vehicle approaching on CR 102 as the RV crossed, and hit it, leaving the RV disabled in FM 136.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — Nashville authorities say a woman died after she was hit by a vehicle while trying to warn drivers of a disabled truck along Interstate 40 Sunday night. The Metro Nashville Police Department (MNPD) said the incident happened at approximately 10 p.m. along the I-40E exit ramp to Old Hickory Boulevard and Central Pike. According to investigators, a preliminary investigation indicates that a black Chevrolet 1500 crashed on the exit ramp overpass and became disabled, which led to it partially blocking the right lane.
